Another rumor has surfaced today, claiming that the next-generation iPhone, the Apple iPhone 5 will not have Near Field Communication (NFC). Originally the rumor was sparked by a tech blog independent.co.uk, stating that the sources inside the UK mobile operators have revealed that NFC technology would be coming in Apple’s 2012 Smartphones but not in iPhone 5.

For starters the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology transmits and read data at a distance of up to 10cm. It is compatible with existing systems such as RFID tags: tiny, incredibly cheap slithers of componentry able to store information and be embedded in anything from food packaging to stickers. Also allows payment for products with just a wave of your phone on a reader, currently it is available in recently announced Google Nexus S. Anyhow the reason that the source mention is that Apple stated to the mobile operators in a meeting that the company is worried about the lack of a clear standard across the industry.
The carrier insiders also said that Apple is currently working on its own version of NFC that will allow iDevices owners to purchase goods with their iTunes accounts. It would be same as Apple did with FaceTime, meaning that Apple will alter the existing protocol as per its need. Apple didn’t incorporate this technology in recently announced iPad 2 and as we already know that Apple goes by its own pace rather than on market trends.
